Must go places to fully enjoy the shooting star showers in the Dolomites of Arabba
A "falling star" or a "shooting star" has nothing at all to do with a star! These amazing streaks of light you can sometimes see in the night sky are caused by tiny bits of dust and rock called meteoroids falling into the Earth's atmosphere and burning up.
One of the best meteor showers, the Perseids, happens in August. "Peak time" is when you are likely to see the largest number of meteors per hour, and this sommer will be between 12th and 13th of August, at 10 pm.
In the Dolomites of Arabba, a good places to catch the falling stars are:
- Arabba village
- Campolongo Pass
- Pordoi Pass
- Valparola Pass
- Falzarego Pass
- Andraz Castle
- Pieve di Livinallongo village
For trekking & photgraphy lovers, why not reach a panoramic point at high altitude to enjoy the show even closer to the celestial vault, you can go up to Col di Lana. While for those who want to take a simple walk, we recommend the ascent to Bec de Roces from Campologo Pass or from the parking area of the road's Falzarego Pass, reach the Andarz Castle, ideal for giving an extra touch of romance. Of course, don't forget to bring a torch to return to the starting point.
