In Ladin "La Court, Lasta, Contrin e Sié"
The village of Corte, known as Fodom "La Court" in local dialect, is a hamlet located on the right-hand side as you climb up the SR48 Dolomite road. If you take the road up to it, you will pass through the village of Federa, inhabited by locals. "La Court" is situated in a position which particularly facilitates the view of Monte Civetta and the Sella massif. As soon as you enter the village through its street, on the right you can admire the old Austrian fort used until the First World War. Crossing the village and the square, taking the road that climbs towards the village of Lasta, you can see the Church of Madonna della Neve, about which there are many legends regarding the place of construction in the 17th century. Just above the hamlet of Corte is the village of Lasta, a place that is illuminated by the sun all year round. The village is situated on a pretty plateau, from which the entire upper Fodom Valley can be seen.
From the locality of Lasta, continuing along the road it is possible to arrive at the small village of Contrin, located in a rather green and very quiet area around 1700m above sea level. The village consists of about fifteen houses.
Another village near Lasta is Sief. The village is much smaller than Contrin. The name derives from the dialectical word "Sief", translated means fence, which was used especially in wood during the years of cattle breeding to prevent the animals from getting lost in the surrounding forest. Cattle breeding was widespread in ancient times by almost every local family.
