In Ladin "Salejei"
The village of Salesei is toponymically divided into Salesei di Sotto, Salesei di Sopra, Costa di Salesei and Pian di Salesei. They are divided from each other by the Dolomites' state road 48, which climbs from the Digonera settlement. Salesei is a very populated hamlet, especially by families, located in an area with a full view of Mount Civetta. Salesei also connects with the houses of Foppa, Sottocrepa, Retiz, Gruopa, and Molinat, a walk that can be taken all year round. A noteworthy point of interest are "le Crape del Pisciandol" (the waterfalls of Retiz), where the Rio Chiesa "rains" on the village of Retiz.
An interesting building in Pian di Salesei is the Military Memorial of the First World War. It has a masonry access road in the shape of a cross with several niches, precisely 685, of soldiers who lost their lives for their country. At the tip of the cross, there is a chapel that dates back to the old cemetery, present before the construction of the new Sacrarium in 1922.
