Saturday, 12 September 2026, sees the return of the Sellaronda Bike Day, Autumn Edition. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, the four passes around the Sella Group – Campolongo, Gardena, Sella and Pordoi – will be closed to motorised traffic, leaving the roads to cyclists, families and cycling enthusiasts.
September is the time of year when the Dolomites slowly begin to change their appearance. The light becomes softer, the air at higher altitudes gets cooler and the colours of the mountains herald the arrival of autumn.
It is against this backdrop that one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Dolomites cycling season returns: the Sellaronda Bike Day – Autumn Edition, taking place on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
The event is non-competitive and offers the opportunity to cycle the famous Sellaronda circuit without the usual motorised traffic.
Sellaronda Bike Day 2026: when does it take place? The 2026 Sellaronda Bike Day Autumn Edition takes place on Saturday, 12 September, with the roads involved in the event reserved for cyclists from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The passes involved are:
Campolongo Pass
Gardena Pass
Sella Pass
The Sellaronda Bike Day route is approximately 51.8 kilometres long, with around 1,680 metres of positive elevation gain.
The route forms a large loop around the Sella Group and crosses four of the Dolomites’ best-known mountain passes: Campolongo, Gardena, Sella and Pordoi.
This is not a race: there are no rankings or official times to beat. The aim is to enjoy the route at your own pace, whether you are looking for a sporting challenge, a ride with friends or simply a day of cycling through the spectacular Dolomite landscape.
One loop, four passes, countless views of the DolomitesIn just over 50 kilometres, the Sellaronda brings together some of the most iconic landscapes of the Dolomites.
From Campolongo Pass to Gardena Pass, and from Sella Pass to Pordoi Pass, the route crosses four Alpine passes and connects different valleys and areas around the Sella massif.
For those arriving in Arabba, Campolongo Pass and Pordoi Pass are two of the key points along the route.
The charm of the autumn editionThe Sellaronda Bike Day also takes place in spring, but the September event has a special character: it offers the chance to experience the great Dolomite circuit as the season transitions towards autumn.
This does not necessarily mean that autumn foliage will already be visible at higher altitudes, as the landscape can vary considerably depending on weather conditions and altitude. What you can expect, however, are cooler temperatures than in the height of summer and a different quality of light.
For those who enjoy photographing the mountains, cycling at a leisurely pace or simply spending a day outdoors, it is an opportunity to experience the Sellaronda from a different perspective.
A day without motorised trafficOne of the distinctive features of the Sellaronda Bike Day is the temporary closure of the four passes involved to motorised traffic.
For several hours, the roads of the Sellaronda are therefore mainly experienced by people travelling by bicycle. This creates a special atmosphere, allowing participants to focus on the route and the landscape in a way that is different from an ordinary day with road traffic.
It is important to remember that the closure applies only during the scheduled event hours: anyone travelling in the area before or after the event must take normal road traffic and the instructions of the competent authorities into account.
Sellaronda Bike Day: is it a race? No. The Sellaronda Bike Day is a non-competitive cycling event open to everyone.
There are no official times or rankings. The route can therefore be tackled at your own pace, taking into account your fitness level and the characteristics of the Dolomite climbs.
As cyclists with different levels of experience will be riding the route at the same time, it is particularly important to ride carefully and respectfully towards other participants.
